How do I chat?

To begin chatting with fellow players, simply enter a Gamesville game and type in the text box near the smiley face icon. Hit the "Send" key to place your text inside the chat room for everyone to see.

Can I private message? (Yes!) Is it free? (Yes!)

Some sites treat private messaging like a privilege you have to pay for; at Gamesville, all members can private chat, and private chat is free to all.

To send another player a private message, click their member name in the player list in chat, then click the "Send Private Message" option.

Do you filter out certain words?

Yes, Gamesville does have a chat filter in place which will catch some offensive language but not all. Sometimes, the chat filter also catches words that you might feel are not offensive because those names and words could be (and have been) used in an offensive way. So, we err on the side of being conservative and block all instances of those names or words.

Can I block players from talking to me?

If you see someone acting in an abusive manner (excessive swearing, personal attacks, etc.) please add that player to your block list so you never see messages from that player again, unless you remove them from your block list.

To block individual players, click the player's member name in the player list and select "Block from Chat". When a player is on your blocked list, you will not see any messages from them the chat window.

This is an extremely powerful tool because chat abusers really want your attention, and they can't stand being ignored. Once chat abusers stop getting your attention, they grow bored and eventually move on or stop altogether.

To view your full block list, go to My Gamesville where you can add other players to your block list or remove players from your block list.

Can I report players for abuse?

There may be times when intervention is needed, because the chat violates our Terms of Service. If a situation has arisen that you feel needs to be investigated, please click their name in the room list, like so:

This will send an Abuse Report to our customer service team with following information, which will help us conduct a swift and thorough investigation:

Abuser's member name
Game name in which the incident took place
Room name in which the incident took place
Date and time in which the incident took place

You will be able to review the information before submitting it to us, and also be able to include additional information, such as a brief description of what took place.

Our customer service team reviews every abuse report. After a thorough investigation, we'll decide what action to take for each individual situation.

Can I turn off chat?

Yes. To hide the chat component entirely, click the little checkbox next to the chat to toggle chat off and on.
