You can rip NBA cards online without ever stepping into a physical card shop. All you need is your phone or computer, an account with a card ripping site, as well as a pack with cards that excite you.
Although it depends on the pack you rip open, you could uncover cards featuring NBA superstars, rookies, legendary players, teams, and memorable moments from the league. Some packs may even contain autographs, numbered cards, parallels, and pieces of memorabilia. Stay locked in as we discuss everything you should know about NBA cards, and where you can rip them seamlessly.
To rip NBA cards online simply means opening basketball card packs through an online site instead of buying and tearing it open yourself at home. This means without leaving the comfort of your home, you can enjoy all of the fun and excitement that come with ripping cards. The fun part is that you actually don’t know the type of card you can pull while ripping.
While this is also the case for those who rip baseball cards online, NBA-related packs can give you the chance to pull cards like rookie cards, current NBA stars, retired legends, team cards, parallels, autographs, numbered cards, and even cards containing pieces of basketball memorabilia. Meanwhile, when you break NBA cards, you’re opening a pack along with other collectors, so it’s not considered an individual purchase. Not all card rip sites feature NBA card breaks, but it’s a common feature to expect in big platforms.
Like we mentioned in the paragraph above, there’s a wide variety of packs you can pull if you decide to explore NBA packs. But for the purpose of this guide, we’ll be covering just a few of them below:
Rookie cards are exactly what the name suggests. Specifically, they are cards featuring players during the early stage of their NBA careers. These are usually interesting pulls because you never really know how far a young player will go. If the player eventually becomes one of the biggest names in basketball, certain rookie cards could attract many attention from collectors. So, they are actually a good starting point for those looking to pull some of the most valuable basketball cards.
Pulling an autograph card can make your card rips a lot more exciting actually. As the name implies, these cards usually come with signatures from the players shown on them. So, sometimes, you could find an autograph from a rookie, current NBA star, or even a retired legend. Just keep in mind that not every autograph arc carries the same value.
These are actually quite different from your regular basketball cards. Memorabilia cards can contain a small piece of material associated with basketball, such as part of a jersey. Some collectors like them because they get something beyond just a picture of a player printed on a card. But then, it’s worth noting that Memorabilia cards are quite scarce, so you may not find them on a wide range of card ripping sites.
Before we proceed to showing you how to get started, here’s a table summarizing some popular NBA card types:
| NBA card types | What makes it different | Perceived value |
|---|---|---|
| Rookie cards | Usually come with players that are early in their NBA careers | High |
| Autograph cards | Include an NBA player’s signature | High |
| Memorabilia cards | Contains materials such as a jersey piece | High |
| Numbered cards | Produced in a stated limited quantity | High |
| Base cards | Standard cards from a particular set | Low — medium |

NBA packs can come at very different prices, so make sure the site has options that fit your budget before starting the sign up process. You can scroll through all available packs for an idea of their costs. Don’t forget to consider additional charges like shipping fee as well as storage fee before making a choice.
Almost everyone now prefers to rip packs on their phones. In that light, it won’t make a lot of sense to sign up for a site that won’t perform well on the phone. Therefore, before you get started with any ripping site, make sure to test them on your phone browser for an idea of how well they perform on smaller screens.
