If you’re looking to rip Star Wars cards online, you’ve got a few options. You can either watch real packs being opened on a live stream, or you can virtually “open” packs yourself, which is essentially an animated sequence.
Fans of the franchise who are new to card ripping should keep reading as we discuss the difference between card rips and card breaks, how digital packs work and how to purchase them, where you can take part online, and more. After all, card ripping is relatively new to the collecting world, so there’s a lot to cover!
Especially when you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s easy to get confused between rips and breaks. You may even find people using the words interchangeably, but they actually mean two different things.
Online Star Wars card rips generally refer to the opening of a pack or box in which all the cards revealed from the rip belong to you — an individual purchase, you could say.
When you break Star Wars cards, on the other hand, it typically involves several people. You’ll usually see a “breaker” open a box or case live, with participants receiving cards according to the rules of that particular break.
The decision is entirely up to you and depends on what you’re looking for. If you choose to rip a pack, then the product you purchase is entirely yours. You get to enjoy all the excitement of opening a pack (or watching it be opened for you), knowing every card that gets pulled now belongs to you.
If you go for a card break or want to rip cases online, you’ll get to experience more of a social element as there will be several people participating and watching along with you, but this also means you don’t get to keep the entire pack and may have to watch the card you were so desperately after be handed to someone else. What’s life without a little risk, though?
As mentioned earlier on, these sites generally work in one of two ways: you either watch a host open a real pack for you live and the contents are shipped to you (this applies to both rips and breaks), or you can digitally open your own pack (if you chose to rip, that is), and once again, the physical version of the cards would be sent to you. You can also choose to trade your cards with other collectors.
You may also find sites out there that allow you to buy and collect digital cards, rather than physical. What are digital trading cards? These are basically the same trading cards you know and love but that are represented electronically rather than as a physical collectible. If you’re not a fan of binders and protective sleeves, this could be a great option for you!
Naturally, the thrill of card ripping/breaking comes from the anticipation of finding cards that you so desperately want to add to your collection or those that are rare and of high value.
Star Wars trading cards have been around since 1977, and there are both vintage and modern options circulating around in the collector universe. Like most collectibles, there are a few different aspects that determine how much a specific item is worth. Below are four to consider.
Naturally, some characters are more popular than others, and harder to come across. You’ll find most collectors want characters such as Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia in their binders — and are willing to pay more to accomplish this.
As you may know, some cards are limited edition, have (or had) a low production volume, are autographed, or are special inserts. All of these are rare, making them all the more desirable to get your hands on.
While you’ll still be able to trade or sell ungraded cards, those checked by PSA or BGS and graded Mint or Gem Mint 10 are worth much more. This means that these cards are in excellent condition.
Older card series from the original 1977 set tend to be considered extremely valuable, especially when in good condition or sold as a whole pack.
Whether you’re planning to rip Disney cards online or Star Wars cards, there are a few things we suggest you take into consideration.
| Feature | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Customer support | Both new and experienced collectors may have questions from time to time. It’s essential to be able to contact support and receive a timely response. |
| Authenticity procedures | Sites that offer PSA or BGS-certified cards are your best bet, especially if you’re looking for cards of value. |
| Transparency | You’ll want to use a site offering specific details on exactly what you’ll receive in each pack and any fees involved. |
| Break rules | The website should clearly explain how cards are allocated, how many participants there are, and what the rules are. |
